Another Coulter Quote

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:45 pm by Alicia Long

I don’t normally give Ann Coulter the time of day because, let’s be honest, she is REALLY crazy.  I’m definetely liberal… but do I piss and moan constantly about conservatives and not contribute ANYTHING plausible to a political argument?  Fuck no.  It’s a waste of my time.  But I thought I would take a moment and post this quote of Ms. Coulter’s that threw me for a loop:

“Liberals hate America, they hate “flag-wavers,” they hate abortion opponents, they hate all religions except Islam (post 9/11). Even Islamic terrorists don’t hate America like liberals do. They don’t have the energy. If they had that much energy, they’d have indoor plumbing by now.”

OK….  This is so damn retarded it doesn’t even merit a rebuttal.

Liquid Coal

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:10 pm by Alicia Long

Energy policy was never my strong point, but a friend passed along this fantastic article about the liquid coal industry and the Dem Prez candidates…

Last week, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton showed that despite  efforts to build support with progressives suspicious of their close ties to corporate America, when it comes to real decisions and real votes, big business will often come first. This was reaffirmed when the two senators voted for an amendment to the energy bill offered by Montana Democrat Jon Tester that would have provided $200 million in grants and $10 billion in taxpayer loans for projects to turn regular old solid, black coal into new, shiny liquid coal to power cars and trucks. The coal companies love the idea, because replacing even 10 percent of gasoline with liquid coal would spur a 43 percent increase in coal mining, according to environmental groups. And proponents have tried to put coal liquefaction in the politically appealing framework of “energy independence” — helping reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Alas, there are a few problems. At the top of the list is the fact that turning solid coal into liquid fuel requires massive inputs of energy. Indeed, liquid coal currently produces double the greenhouse gas emissions that regular gasoline does. As the U.S. Public Interest Research Group’s Ben Dunham noted to the Prospect, global warming — which technologies like liquid coal will only accelerate — will eventually melt some of the polar icecaps, leading to a 20 foot rise in sea levels inundating millions of acres of land across the globe. “Liquid coal would lead to liquid Florida, liquid Louisiana, and liquid low-lying areas around the world,” Dunham said.

…Until it started to attract derision in the blogosphere, Obama even prominently featured a supporting statement on the “energy issues” page of his campaign website from the coal industry’s top lobbyist, Kraig R. Naasz, applauding Obama’s “leadership” in helping “make greater use of our most abundant and affordable domestic source of energy: coal.” But Obama recently backed off his support for liquid coal after the environmental movement and the media shined an unwelcome spotlight on his him. After weeks of abuse from environmentalists, he issued a “clarification” that he would support only coal to liquids projects that met the kind of standards laid out in the Tester amendment.

…Clinton’s reasons for supporting liquid coal are harder to divine. Like Obama, she’s compiled a generally pro-environment record, but also like him, she’s surrendered to polluter lobbyists on some key issues — for example, supporting the logging company International Paper in burning highly toxic tires at a major facility in upstate New York.

The office of the Vice President is…

Posted in Cheney at 4:15 pm by Alicia Long

Great post from the Rude Pundit: (I LOVE this guy)

Six Other Things the Office of the Vice President Actually Is:
Dick Cheney has decided that his office is a free-floating radical in DC, not quite an executive entity, not truly a legislative one, but some unholy Reese’s cup of evil. Here’s some other ways the Veep has untethered himself from mortal binds.

1. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but actually a Native American religion, Cheney and his staff are free to smoke peyote at the start of every morning meeting.

2. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but actually a breach in the space/time continuum, Cheney is free to enter at will his own dimension, the realm of Cthulhu and the slime beasts.

3. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but actually a motorcycle gang, Cheney is free to beat Senators with chains and blackjacks.

4. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but technically an executive bathroom, Cheney is free to wipe his ass with whatever documents are handy, memos, executive orders, Constitutions.

5. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but actually a freak show, Cheney is free to bite the heads off chickens. And nosy members of Congress.

6. Because his office is not an entity in the executive branch, but actually an insane asylum, Cheney is free to rain bedlam down on the whole of government.

Colorado’s women lawmakers rock

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:23 pm by Alicia Long

I meant to post this yesterday, but I got a little busy (yes, I do have a life…).  Apparently Colorado is number 3 in the nation for the number of female lawmakers.  Also, Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald is one of three female Senate Presidents in the Country.  Sure she’s a bitch, but that is quite an accomplishment :)

From the Post:

Colorado ranks third nationally in the number of women in its state legislature, but at 35 percent it’s hardly equality.

“There is still an old-boys network, and it’s real,” said Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, one of just six female senate presidents in the country.

Women make up 50 percent of the state’s population, according to the Census Bureau.

Thirty-five of Colorado’s 100 lawmakers are women – 11 in the Senate and 24 in the House, putting Colorado behind only Vermont and New Hampshire in an analysis by Rutgers University’s Center for American Women and Politics.

The national average is 23.5 percent, with mainly Southern states rounding out the bottom 10. South Carolina was the lowest with 8.8 percent female lawmakers.

The analysis shows Democrats in Colorado and across the nation are doing a better job recruiting women to their ranks.

Of the 11 female senators in Colorado, only one is a Republican. And in the House, there are 19 female Democrats compared with five Republicans.

“Republican women, many of them tend to prioritize families over careers, and that would mean political careers as well,” said Sen. Nancy Spence of Centennial, the lone female in the Republican Senate caucus.

Right Senator Spence…  Republican woman are of a higher moral variety than us career-oriented, power hungry, godless Democratic woman ;)

One in six hate crimes are motivated by the victim’s sexual orientation.  Yet federal laws don’t protect these people.  Please encourage your Senators to support the Matthew Shepard Act.

Hillary booed by far lefties??

Posted in Hillary Clinton at 5:15 pm by Alicia Long

Interesting post from The Stump:

Hillary Clinton is in a bit of a sticky spot. She knows she has to support the war effort so as not to be labeled an appeaser while also pandering to the left-wing base. If Clinton were to come out as the anti-war candidate, she may win the nomination but lose badly in the general election and she knows that, so she keeps up the tough on terror facade.

This morning, Hillary was speaking to the far-left (take a gander at the sponsors, a plethora of pinkos) Take Back America conference in Washington, DC. She was cruising along, bashing Bush and getting nice applause until the wheels came off:

“We’re going to end the war in Iraq and finally bring home the troops,” she said as a number of Code Pink protesters stood up in the audience. When she declared, “The American military has done its job,” boos began to be heard around the room. As the boos increased, Sen. Clinton raised her voice. “The American military has succeeded,” she said, to more boos. “It is the Iraqi government that has failed to make the tough decisions.” Still more boos.

If you’re curious…. Please GO HERE to watch the video of this spectacle.

To me, Hillary’s remarks wouldn’t rile me up to the point of being obnoxious.  But then again, I’m not insane.  I wondered what Code Pink had to say, so I went to their website (which, by the way, has WAY too much freaking PINK!).  Here is what they had to say about Hillary at the conference this morning:

Her commentary seemed to blame Iraq for the ongoing violence, which in turn was met with loud boos from the audience. Hillary walked a careful talk today, but it was not convincing to many in the audience, who feel the only way that trust in Hillary could be restored is through her actions to end the war, not her rhetoric.

O…..K……????  Whatever.  I have the sudden urge to go paint my house blue.

Introducing the New and Improved…. MUSGRAVE!!

Posted in Musgrave at 4:23 pm by Alicia Long

Marilyn Musgrave, the bain of my Colorado existence, is morphing.  Easily the most conservative congressperson from Colorado, Musgrave is getting her feet wet in this “new” idea called “bipartisanship.”  Apparently, it’s this concept that people from both parties can actually work together and not kill each other.  Musgrave has discovered this new, hip thing to do and is jumping on the bandwagon in an effort to save her political ass from extinction.  From today’s Post:

She’s serving coffee to constituents and holding “listening sessions.”

A staunch conservative, she is criticizing the president and having her photo taken with Democratic Rep. Mark Udall.

Bipartisanship has emerged as a favorite buzzword.

Welcome to the new Marilyn Musgrave.

Coming off a narrow election win in November and criticism that she wasn’t accessible to her constituents, the third-term Colorado congresswoman is undergoing a political makeover.

“I feel like I’ve worked hard for the past five years, but when you’re criticized for not being as in touch with your constituents as you should be, I need to respond with humility,” she said. “People criticize me for not doing things, and then when I prove them wrong and do them, they say, ‘She’s doing it because she had a close race.’ It’s a no-win situation.”

Perhaps, say political observers, but Musgrave’s makeover is a smart move considering Republicans are struggling to say afloat nationally, and a number of Democrats are showing interest in trying to topple her in next year’s election.

“It’s a clearly calculated, born-again political image,” said John Straayer, political-science professor at Colorado State University, which is in Musgrave’s 4th Congressional District.

So far Musgrave’s new image hasn’t translated into votes. During the current Congress, she’s voted with her party 96 percent of the time, according to a vote database on WashingtonPost.com.

That makes some sense, considering voter registration in her district is generally 40 percent Republican, 25 percent Democratic and 34 percent unaffiliated. And no Democrat has won the seat in 25 years.

But even with the Republican edge, Musgrave has had to fight off Democrats to keep her seat since first elected in 2002.

Jefferson Indicted

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:38 pm by Alicia Long

A hearty congratulations to William Jefferson, the distinguished representative from Los Angeles, on his recent indictments.  If you are really bored, you can read the 90+ page court document here.  Woo!!

This genius who hid $90,000 in his freezer is in trouble for racketeering, soliciting bribes, money-laundering and other things.  CREW has now named Jefferson one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress.  Who knew Jefferson had such potential to enter into this club!!!

Check out CREW for their report.

For those of you in Colorado…  I can’t help but resist the temptation to mention one of our beloved (cough cough) congresspersons, Marilyn Musgrave, is also on CREW’s list HERE.
